Kyle Richards wants to be Teddi Mellencamp's shoulder to cry on as they navigate through their public divorces.
The "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star recently expressed willingness to support her former co-star through her separation from her estranged husband, Edwin Arroyave.
Kyle Richards explained that she wished to offer Teddi Mellencamp the support she gave amid her divorce from Mauricio Umansky. The pals are nowhere near finalizing their splits, with Mellencamp and Arroyave seemingly heading down a difficult path.
Kyle Richards Shares Advice With Teddi Mellencamp On How To Handle A Public Divorce
Richards weighed in on her friend's divorce in a new interview, noting she knew Mellencamp had been having a "difficult" time. She explained the pair spoke frequently, adding:
"Obviously, it's sad no matter what ... And unfortunately, I can give some advice for living through this in the public eye."
Richards noted that the most challenging aspect of separating was how it affected the children. She referenced her daughters with Umansky, confessing her girls, despite being grown, had a difficult time processing their parents' divorce.
On that note, the Bravolebrity advised Mellencamp not to handle her split from Arroyave alone. She implored her pal to come to her whenever she needed a shoulder to lean on, telling PEOPLE:
"She can lean on me and show up at my door anytime she wants, no matter what time of night it is. She's watched me go through this, and she knows."
Richards Tells Mellencamp To 'Focus On Your Kids'
Richards's advice didn't stop at offering to support Mellencamp as she told her friend to ignore the public's attention on her divorce. She recalled the "mistruths" that circulated after her split from Umansky and urged the former "RHOBH" star to ignore the speculations, saying:
"So, I think you can just, you just have to focus on your kids ... You have to tune out the noise."
Mellencamp announced her separation from Arroyave on Instagram earlier this month. In the November 2 post, she revealed she had pulled the plug on her longtime marriage in a statement, writing:
"After a great deal of care and consideration, I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce. My priority is my children and ensuring that every care is taken with their privacy and wellbeing throughout this new chapter."
The Former Bravolebrity Did Not Want To Publicize Her Divorce
In her separation statement, Mellencamp revealed that she did not want to announce her divorce publicly. However, she did so to stop unfounded speculations about her split from Arroyave.
"To protect my family from undue speculation and rumors, I have felt being open, honest, and vulnerable is the best path forward," Mellencamp wrote. Despite her wishes to avoid drama, the estranged couple might have to battle their differences in court.
Mellencamp filed for divorce on November 1, a day before dropping her separation announcement. She cited "irreconcilable differences" as the cause of their split and listed October 20 as their separation date.
She also asked for primary legal and physical custody of the duo's three kids — Slate, Cruz, and Dove — plus spousal support and attorney fees from Arroyave. However, her estranged beau disagreed with her terms.
Mellencamp And Arroyave Might End Up Butting Heads In Court
As shared by The Blast, Arroyave responded to Mellencamp's divorce filing on November 8. He rejected her demands for primary legal and physical custody of their children, imploring the court to grant them joint custody.
Arroyave also slammed her request for spousal support, asking the court to terminate her rights but keep his. He cited the estranged couple's prenuptial agreement, noting:
"The parties' Premarital Agreement sets forth the terms regarding the amount and duration of spousal support to be paid."
As for Mellencamp's request for him to cover her attorney fees, Arroyave stressed that the pair should be accountable for their respective legal expenses. Additionally, he disagreed with their separation date being October 20 and claimed it was November 1.
Kyle Richards And Mauricio Umansky Accused Of Dragging Out Their Divorce
Before Mellencamp's separation from Arroyave made waves, her pal Richards was in the middle of her divorce from Umansky. However, The Blast reported that sources close to the duo claimed they were dragging out their split.
People close to Richards and Umansky's collapsed marriage alleged the pair were using their divorce to secure their reality TV bag. These insiders noted their discussions about their separation were evidence of their delay tactics.
The estranged couple have had extensive discussions about why they separated without addressing the primary issue or issues behind their divorce. Additionally, the new season of Umansky's "Buying Beverly Hills" would focus on his divorce.
