Dwyane Wade gives damning assessment of Los Angeles Lakers roster in Bronny James call
Dwyane Wade doesn’t think close friend LeBron James will be winning a fifth ring this season. The 13-time All-Star won two NBA Championships with LeBron on a stacked Miami Heat team. But Wade, who retired in 2019, doesn’t think Los Angeles has enough talent to go all the way. “As a fan of the game, I’m not looking at the Lakers saying they’re going to win a championship,” he said on The Why with Dwyane Wade. “Now the Lakers are always in the place to be able to make a move because it’s the Lakers. “It’s certain teams always saying that maybe they can. The Lakers can make a move – we’ve seen it before – but right now it’s not a championship roster overall.” The Lakers could yet make a splash with a mid-season trade to add a new weapon alongside LeBron and Anthony Davis. But Wade thinks they would be better off promoting Bronny from the G League affiliate South Bay Lakers. “The habits that are being built to build the culture of what JJ is setting forward in that coaching style,” he added. “But like we want to see Bronny like this is not a championship team, it’s not a championship roster as this point. “When I look at the Lakers, I want Anthony Davis to have MVP type year, as a fan I would love to see LeBron continue to play at the level he want to play at and I actually want to see him and Bronny do their thing. I think Paul Pierce said recently like I want to see Bron and Bronny like a lob. I tune in to the Lakers to see that this season.” Bronny has been finding his feet in the G League after a tough start to his NBA career. But the 20-year-old is not ready to make a significant impact at the highest level. And with LeBron turning 40 this month, he does not have time for the developmental season 42-year-old Wade is suggesting. The NBA great has achieved his dream of making history by playing alongside Bronny. But he admits he does not have long to add more titles and records to his CV. “I’m not going to play that much longer, to be completely honest,” LeBron said in November. “I don’t know how many years that is. If it’s one year or two years, whatever the case may be. “I said the other night, I’m not playing until the wheels fall off. “I’m not going to be that guy. I’m not going to be the guy who is disrespecting the game because I just wanted to be out on the floor. That won’t be me.”
