Jason “Sundance” Head has been shot at his ranch in Texas.

The country singer’s agent, Trey Newman, tells PEOPLE that Head was hunting in the woods by himself when he received one bullet to the stomach around 4-4:30 p.m. local time on Friday, Nov. 15.

The season 11 winner of NBC’s The Voice, 46, was airlifted to a hospital by helicopter. TMZ was first to break the news.

An investigation has not yet begun, but the "Darlin' Don't Go" singer's agent tells PEOPLE Head may have been accidentally shot by another hunter, noting Head’s injury was not self-inflicted.

The “Me and Jesus” singer called 911 himself and was airlifted to a hospital in Tyler, Texas. During this time, his wife Misty was then called by paramedics to inform her of what happened to her husband, Head's agent tells PEOPLE.

Doctors say the bullet missed Head’s vital organs and is lodged in the fatty tissue in his stomach, adds Newman.

"At this point, he is not undergoing surgery. The doctors have decided to leave the bullet in him. But that could change," Newman tells PEOPLE. "Right now he's in stable condition and the doctors are just monitoring him and checking his vitals — they are making sure he's okay. He's one of the best guys I know, and we are all just hoping he'll be okay. He's the best guy around."

Misty, who is currently at the hospital with her husband, tells PEOPLE, “We appreciate all the prayers and will update everyone soon once we have more info.”
