Coco Gauff instantly approves of Serena Williams updated GOAT list as hero joins LeBron James and Tiger Woods
Serena Williams is considered one of the greatest athletes of all time. But even the tennis legend herself has a few heroes of her own. Williams named the likes of Woods, Hamilton and James as her GOATsAFP Speaking in 2022, Williams named four sporting figures she considers ‘GOAT-worthy’ – name-checking the likes of Lewis Hamilton, LeBron James and Tiger Woods. “For me, he’s not only the greatest, but also he does so much, and he’s an amazing guy,” she said of Formula 1 star Hamilton, before diving a little deeper. “One or two, that’s so not fair, because I can’t limit that,” Williams continued. “I think LeBron [James] is amazing, I think Tiger [Woods] is amazing. [We] can’t start this conversation without naming the original, Michael Jordan. “So I just think those are names that will live on, you know? But you can put me in there, too.” While Williams’ list was legendary enough when she first revealed it two years ago, it seems she has now added another name. The 23-time Grand Slam champion joined gymnastics icon Simone Biles for an evening of ‘impactful conversation’ at an event hosted by high-end watch brand Audemars Piguet, Vanity Fair and The Female Quotient. Sharing a series of photos from the night, Williams labelled Biles ‘the GOAT’ as she posed alongside the seven-time Olympic gold medallist, as well as fashion model Winnie Harlow and Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Radhika Jones. “Yesterday, I sat with the GOAT Simone Biles at an evening of impactful conversation with Audemars Piguet, Vanity Fair and The Female Quotient,” she wrote on Instagram. “A house full of women. I love to see it.” Williams named a new GOAT this weekGetty Biles, who impressed at the Paris Olympics, is the name Williams added to her list There’s little surprise that Williams considers Biles one of the GOATs, considering she is the most decorated gymnast of all time. Biles boasts 11 Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals from her illustrious career. The 27-year-old recently starred at the 2024 Paris Games, where she secured three golds and a silver to cement her status as the greatest in history. Fellow tennis star Coco Gauff, it seems, also considers Biles as one of the greats. Responding to Williams’ Instagram post, the 20-year-old commented two goat emojis and a smiling face with heart eyes. One of those goat emojis likely represents Biles, and the other Williams, based on comments she has previously made. Gauff approves of Williams’ latest GOAT claim “What makes her the GOAT is her personality and all that she’s done off the court to fight for equality, to fight for young players like me and continue to lead in the way that she does and I think that’s what we really should be focused on,” Gauff said of Williams back in 2022. “That’s just Serena. I don’t think there will be anyone who can do what she did, with all the adversity that she had to face, I don’t think there will be another player that will do that. “She’s the GOAT. And undisputed too. In my opinion. But I don’t think that’s an opinion, it’s a fact. “Serena for me is the GOAT. The GOAT of all GOATs.”
