The HGTV program was set to feature Christina Haack and Josh Hall as teammates competing against her ex, Tarek El Moussa, and his wife, Heather Rae El Moussa. However, Josh's reaction to the teaser encouraged Christina to reveal the sad reality of their time together.

Josh broke his silence about the reality TV show's teaser on his Instagram Story, highlighting a news article about the fight. The footage was filmed before the estranged couple's July 2024 split and showcased one of the reasons behind their ongoing divorce.
However, Josh implied his heated exchange with Christina had been scripted to boost views and did not capture his true feelings. He called out showrunners for painting him as the problem in the post's overlay text, writing:
"TFW when you can't get enough ratings with celebrity [home] designers, so you rely on manufactured drama with me, a nobody. @HGTV, you've changed."
The network did not respond to his accusations, but Christina did on her Instagram Story. She shared a screenshot of his comments alongside the rebuttal: "Manufactured?! Pretty sure no one at HGTV told you to be rude to me…. That was all natural."

Christina's clapback did not end there as she called out Josh in a separate Instagram Story post. She provided evidence of the aftermath of filming with her estranged husband, sharing a selfie of herself crying in a car.
"This was taken June 21, 2024. After one of my shoots with Josh. This is 'real' and a reminder to myself that I deserve better," Christina captioned the emotional picture. Although she was not caught crying in the show's teaser, the real estate investor appeared done with her estranged husband.
In the video, Josh drove the car while Christina looked sullen in the passenger seat. Her estranged husband appeared upset over their house-flipping showdown with Tarek and Heather, berating his then-wife for not taking the competition seriously.
"This is a competition. We gotta pull out all the stops. Whatever it takes to win, I'll do it. Halls rule! You're supposed to say it with me, or repeat it, or something that shows that you're with me," Josh told Christina, per Fox News.

Josh mostly had a one-sided conversation with Christina as he tried to get a reaction from her. He seemed upset about her lack of response to his comments about the competition and reminded her of her status as his wife, saying:
"Remember, you're a Hall now. Don't get confused in this competition about what your last name is."
When Christina did not respond, Josh snapped, "You're rude." She finally replied, "I don't over talk." Her quip sparked more criticisms from her then-husband, who added: "Yeah, the s—t you say, and I'm just like, 'I wish you'd shut up already.'"

Christina and HGTV shared the teaser video on their respective Instagram pages. The footage would be included in the show's two-hour premiere on January 29. In the comment section of the post, Heather Rae penned her support for the TV personality by slamming Josh, writing:

During her conversation with Tarek, Christina revealed she had officially separated from Josh after multiple fights and "middle fingers" in her face. "Things with Josh have been bad for a long time," she confessed before noting her kids had encouraged her to leave.
"They told me he's not nice to me. Why would I stick around?" she told Tarek, adding: "I feel like I'm in a tornado all the time, and I just can't get out of it. Everything since 2016 has been so hard and so horrible."
A tearful Christina continued: "It's really taken a really bad toll on me." She also apologized to her ex-husband for their nasty 2016 split, and Tarek admitted that he experienced a similarly difficult time following their divorce.
