Cher's mother divorced her fourth husband for being "too wild in the bedroom" for her taste.
In her bestselling memoir Cher: The Memoir, Part One, the "I Got You Babe" singer wrote about her childhood and her mother Georgia Holt's marriages — including the one to real estate magnate Joseph Harper Collins.
Holt, who died in 2022 at the age of 96, met Collins in the summer of 1957 at a party and were engaged shortly after. After they got married, Cher, 78, her mom, and sister Georganne moved into Joe's Beverly Hills mansion.

For a brief period, Cher's mother was able to relax.
"All the stress left her life, as she didn’t have to worry about money or work or putting food on the table," she said. "Once we moved into Joe’s home, she became a different person entirely, happy and carefree."
However, the marriage came to an end because "Joe swung too far the other way for my mother," Cher writes. "He was a party animal who liked to drink and was too wild in the bedroom."

When Collins told Holt that he wanted to be "more experimental sexually and involve other women," it was something her "naïve" mother "couldn't face." "You know I love you, Joe, but I can’t do that," the singer writes that her mother told Collins.
"They tried for a long time to work it out, as neither Joe nor my mother wanted to face the end of their marriage, but the fantasy was over," Cher writes of the marriage that lasted less than a year.
After Holt and Collins divorced, Cher said that he paid for a brand-new house for them to stay in for six months as part of the settlement while her family got back on their feet. Collins even sent his housekeeper to help out at their new home.
"Joe was a class act," she writes.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Holt was married seven times to six different men throughout her life.
Cher's memoir, which is over 400 page long, is full of stories from her childhood and rise into stardom, including anecdotes about her relationship with Sonny Bono, going out with Warren Beatty, and getting invited to Salvador Dalí's apartment after he hosted an orgy.
The book also delves into Cher's own marriages with Sonny Bono and Gregg Allman, as well as her romances with music executive David Geffen and Kiss rocker Gene Simmons.
