Camila Cabello Goes Ghost On Social Media One Day Before Release Of Ex Shawn Mende's New Album
Singer Camila Cabello announced a temporary leave of absence from social media one day before her ex, Shawn Mendes, dropped his latest LP.
Singer Camila Cabello is seemingly protecting her peace from fans of Shawn Mendes. Just a day before the Fifth Harmony alum's ex was set to drop his self-titled fifth studio album, the “I Love It” singer took to Instagram to announce she would be taking a set of “cute” social media breaks.

Taking to her Instagram Stories early Thursday, Cabello posted a sultry snap of herself with an added caption explaining that she would be MIA from the internet for a brief period of time.
“A writer must have stories [and] I'm living them right now,” the 27-year-old entertainer shared, as transcribed by TMZ . “Taking some cute little internet breaks. “Love you, my babies.”
Camila coincidentally announced her temporary exit from the online world one day before her ex, performer Shawn Mendes, was set to release her introspective fifth album, Shawn .
Camila May Have Already Been Caught Off-Guard By The Vulnerability Of 'Shawn'
It stands to reason that Cabello would disappear just as Mendes' Shawn is released publicly due to the Canadian singer's bold honesty he seems to be exuding on the album.
Back in August, the 26-year-old singer-songwriter premiered the first single from Shawn, “Why Why Why,” which featured Mendes' admitting that he nearly fathered a child with an unnamed woman.
“Thought I was about to be a father,” he sings, as noted by Genius . “Shook me to the core, I'm still a kid.”
Although Mendes refused to clarify the public publicly, he did tell Apple Music's Zane Lowe that it was “pointless” for him not to be open about the experiences that ultimately shaped the Shawn album.
"I realized there were two options for me. It was literally like, 'I'm going to go down this path of speaking my exact truth or I'm going to dance around it,'” Mendes said, as People reported. “ “It felt pointless to dance around it, even if the song was never to see the light of day.”
Cabello has never publicly responded to Mendes' “Why Why Why.”

A little more than a month after the release of “Why Why Why,” both Camila and Shawn attended the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards. The pair never appeared to interact with each other that evening, but Camila did give a telling statement on the red carpet.
Us Weekly notes that when Billboard asked Camila about the inspiration behind her all-black outfit – a semi-sheer Tony Ward Couture gown with draping cross necklaces – Camila explained that she was treating the VMAs as a “funeral” of things that didn't serve any purpose for her.
“I'm in my 'Godspeed' era, and that song is very much about letting go of everything that doesn't serve you,” Cabello expressed. “So, I kind of am having a funeral today for just everything that is negative, everything that doesn't serve me. So, I'm kind of attending my own funeral today at the VMAs.”
Sometime later, Mendes shared snaps of his own black-suited look to Instagram with a caption that were quite similar to Cabello's from the VMAs red carpet.
“Pulling up to my own funeral,” he wrote.
Despite Any Awkward Feelings, Shawn Has Said Nothing But Glowing Things About His Time With Camila
Interestingly, even today, Mendes voices nothing but positive mentions about his former relationship with Camila.
Just this week, Mendes sat down again with Apple Music and, as Us Weekly shows, expressed his respect for his ex, despite not being as close as they once were.
“I just think that we really know each other,” he warmly stated. “We haven't been the closest over the last couple of years, but I think we really know each other. We've spent a lot of time together. We really know each other's hearts. So even when all of the sound and all the noise is happening,” he continued, “we can see through each other's both pretty easily, and it's just nice to have that.”
Mendes and Cabello were longtime friends before becoming romantically linked in 2019. They ended their relationship two years later, but were seen together at Coachella in 2023, sparking rumors of a reconciliation. A source confirmed the reconnection to Us Weekly , but said the two split again just months later.
Camila Doesn't Speak About Her Time With Shawn Often, But Seems To Respect Him All The Same
Camila has mostly remained mum on the reasons for her split with Mendes, but doesn't seem resentful. In a rare moment on the Call Me Daddy podcast, she admitted that their reconnection in 2023 was more impulsive than romantic.
“I opted for that route. It is what it is. It was a fun time; it was a fun moment,” Cabello claims, as Billboard shared. “I will always care about him and love him. I'm lucky [because] some people have exes who are awful, and he is not. “He's a really kind, good person.”
