Cameron Diaz Shares How Therapy Strengthens Her Marriage With Benji Madden
In a recent interview with her brother-in-law, Joel Madden, on his "Artist Friendly" podcast, Cameron Diaz opened up about her relationship and credits therapy as a key factor in the strength of her nine-year marriage to Benji Madden.
The 52-year-old actress, who shares two children with the "Good Charlotte" musician, shared: "It's what we depend on, so you have that commitment to work on it."
She emphasized that therapy keeps her and Benji from doing "the same thing over and over."
According to the Daily Mail, Diaz noted that therapy encourages her and her husband to ask, "Why didn't it work? How can I make it work? What's my part? What's the other person's work?"
Diaz also highlighted how therapy taught them to be more "self-aware" and "a little bit more equipped to hopefully come out with a different outcome."
The "Charlie's Angel" star explained, "[It helps us] either resolve something or create a new understanding of a new process together."
Cameron Diaz Talks Commitment And Career Balance With Benji Madden
During the chat, Diaz explained that when times get challenging, she and Benji emphasize staying committed to their partnership.
"Both people are not 100 percent every day," she said. "Even if you're mad at each other and don't want to see each other, sick of each other, it's still 100 percent commitment to the marriage and the partnership and getting things in the family. If it's not 100 percent, it just doesn't work if one person's at a deficit."
The "My Best Friend's Wedding" star also reflected on balancing their careers as she prepared for her return to the screen in "Back in Action," set for release in January.
During Fortune's Most Powerful Women Summit in October, she praised Benji for his support.
"My husband, he's just the best," Diaz shared. "He was just like, 'You've been supporting us and building the family.' And supporting him in his businesses. He's like, 'It's time for us to support you and let mommy ascend and do her thing.'"
The Couple Recently Welcomed Their Second Child

Diaz continued, "He is awesome, and We are all so happy he is here! For the kid's safety and privacy, we won't be posting any pictures- but he's really cute. We are feeling so blessed and grateful."
The proud mom concluded her post by writing: "Sending much love from our fam to yours. Best wishes and Good Afternoon!!"
