Brunchin' Beijing: Butterfly Brunch Has Had a Metamorphosis

In Brunchin' Beijing we explore some of the capital's best brunch spots, from high-end to bargains or hidden gems, there's a brunch spot in Beijing for everyone. A dear friend had family visiting for the holidays and after several weeks of exploring all the typical China stops: Xi'an’s Terracotta Warriors, the Chengdu Pandas and Face Changing opera, The Great Wall and Forbidden City all accompanied by tons of noodles and dumpopera, she wanted to show them a different side of expat life.  We decided to head to Regent's Butterfly Brunch and give them a fancy send off from this beautiful country. It has been over a year since I indulged in this three hour culinary marathon and the team at Regent has added a few wonderful new surprises to the experience. First the location has changed. Previously Butterfly Brunch was held upstairs in the restaurant but it has been moved down to the lobby garden so you can enjoy the beautiful decorations and live piano music with a view of the garden. When we arrived we were greeted with their signature Aperol Spritz loaded with Berries and oranges and then a bottle of prosecco and some delicious pastry were brought to the table while we ordered off the menu. Each person can choose three dishes to be made to order and the list is extensive. I opted for Burrata salad, Eggs Benedict and Beef Wellington while others in our party enjoyed Belgian Waffles, Fish and Chips, Acai Bowls, Carpaccio, Salmon and Curry. Everything was wonderful and fresh. While we waited for the first course to be served a Charcutier cart was brought over and Jamon Iberico was sliced for us, and an assortment of cheeses, pickles and olives as fresh Aperol Spritzes appeared. We spent the next several hours eating, sharing travel stories and just enjoying the company and atmosphere. When we didn’t think we could possible eat anymore the dessert cart appeared. Loaded down with cheesecake, brownies, pannacotta assorted Petit Fours and truffles we were encouraged to choose as many as we could hold. Suddenly I realized the sun had set. We had spent nearly six hours indulging, our glasses had never been empty and both our hearts and stomach were very full. It was a perfect end to the Holiday season.  Butterfly Brunch is held every Weekend at The regent Hotel and the cost of the free flow experience is usually RMB 498 but If you use the Mini Program to book it is discounted to 388.
