Billy Joe Saunders has told talkSPORT that he’s willing to jump in and fight Darren Till on January 18. The former two-weight world champion has not boxed in three-and-a-half years, having last been seen in the ring during his first career defeat to Canelo Alvarez in 2021. However, on Friday, Fury pulled out of the bout, citing Till’s press conference threat to use head kicks in their boxing match as the reason why. “Everybody makes decisions for their own good,” Saunders told talkSPORT Drive when asked about Fury’s statement. “But look, at the end of the day as well, we are in the fight game here. “I think Darren Till was probably getting a few quid and sometimes you’ve got to give every dog a chance and persevere with all that sort of talk. “Because on paper Tommy obviously looked favourite, but for whatever reason he’s pulled out or he doesn’t want the fight to happen – it’s his own reasons. “If there’s a chance to obviously, I could get in there, me and Darren Till. “It’s not really proper boxing, Darren is right really in a way, I’ve heard him say it. “So it wouldn’t be the real me, but listen, if he’s gonna lose out on a few quid and there’s someone out there that wants me to step in, then obviously my phone’s there for a conversation to be had.” Saunders has largely been out of the limelight in the 42 months since he fought Canelo. However, Saunders insisted: “Yeah listen, I’ll fight anyone and at the moment, I’m not being rude, but it’d be a level playing field. “Because look, people are gonna go on about the technical boxing side of things and [whether I’d] pick him off and punch him to the pieces all night, I don’t know. “This is why I’m saying it’s a level playing field, he’s in super shape and fit as and strong as a bull. So he’d never have a better chance to beat me will he?” At his best, Saunders boxed at middleweight (160lbs) and super-middleweight (168lbs). Shockingly though, he said he’s willing to face Till without a limit and come in at a heavyweight 210lbs. “Listen the shape – it doesn’t really matter what shape,” Saunders concluded. “I wouldn’t be considering getting down to no stupid weights or putting in any weight clauses so we’ve got to reach certain weights. I’m not really bothered. “If we got in the ring 15 stone (210lbs) I’m not bothered. It doesn’t really matter to me. To me, it’s a field where if I’m good enough I should beat him.”
