On Thursday, February 27, King, Jeff Bezos's partner, Lauren Sanchez, and singer Katy Perry shocked fans when they announced they would be heading to space.
NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, and movie producer Kerianne Flynn would join the all-women crew.

However, the 70-year-old believes the trip to space is an opportunity to experience something new.

King also revealed that she consulted with her best friend, Oprah Winfrey, and her kids, Kirby and William, before committing to the voyage.
She revealed, "Once Kirby and Will and Oprah was fine with it, I was fine. I thought Oprah would say no, no. She said, 'I think if you don't go, when they all come back and you had the opportunity to do it, you will be kicking yourself.' She's right."
