Arsenal vs Aston Villa predictions Arsenal have had a mixed January so far, but Wednesday’s 2-1 victory in the north London derby showed they are still very much in the Premier League title conversation. Pessimism had begun to creep in at the Emirates Stadium after back-to-back defeats by Newcastle United in the EFL Cup and Manchester United in the FA Cup. Gabriel Jesus recently joined an injury list that already contained Bukayo Saka, Ethan Nwaneri and Ben White among others, while a deal to sign a new forward does not seem to be imminent. Liverpool dropped two points in a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, so it was vital that Arsenal got the job done 24 hours later. They fell behind to Tottenham Hotspur as Son Heung-min’s strike was deflected past David Raya with 20 minutes on the clock, but an own goal from Dominic Solanke and a Leandro Trossard effort put Arsenal 2-1 up at half-time. The Gunners had chances to kill the game off after the break but, much to the frustration of their supporters, they did not take any of them. In the end, though, Arsenal were good value for a victory which moved them within four points of top spot. Liverpool have a game in hand on the teams around them, but Arsenal are not ready to throw in the towel yet. “We were outstanding today from the first minute. We were really at it, really intense, showed a lot of quality, played with real purpose to hurt them with and without the ball,” Arteta said after his team completed the double over Tottenham.  “And we created an unbelievable atmosphere, which helps. We know how important [the derby] is to everybody. It’s a gift to make our supporters very happy, and I’m sure we have accomplished that and they are very proud of everything.” The north London derby means more to Arsenal fans than any other game, but the goodwill generated by Wednesday’s triumph will quickly evaporate if Arteta’s team slip up against Aston Villa. A defeat in this fixture last April played a huge part in Arsenal’s failure to win the title. They will not want to make the same mistake here. ⚽ Tip over 2.5 goals and both teams to score at 5/4 with Sky Bet ⚽

Under 8.5 shots on target

Although we anticipate at least three goals being scored at the Emirates, that does not necessarily mean there will be an abundance of shots on target.

Just take a look at recent matches involving these two teams. In each of Arsenal’s last four Premier League matches, there have been under 8.5 attempts on targets.

As mentioned above, the Gunners are still fashioning opportunities but their finishing has been wayward too often.

As for Aston Villa, there have been eight shots on target or fewer in their last four games in all competitions.

Do not expect either Raya and Emi Martinez to be overworked when Arsenal face Villa this weekend.

⚽ Choose under 8.5 shots on target at 10/13 with Casumo ⚽

Leandro Trossard to score any time

From a Tottenham perspective, Leandro Trossard’s winning goal in the north London derby was preventable.

Radu Dragusin should have been quicker to close down the space, while Antonin Kinsky will be disappointed that he did not do better with the strike.

Take nothing away from Trossard, though. The Belgium international really needed that goal. His previous strike came way back in November.

With Saka, Jesus and Nwaneri all on the treatment table at present, Trossard should get an extended run in the starting XI in the weeks ahead.

That will only help the former Brighton & Hove Albion man to be more productive. Aston Villa will need to keep a close eye on Trossard here.
