‘African warriors’ – Derek Chisora names UFC legend as one stunning option for farewell 50th fight
Derek Chisora has named the two fighters being considered for his 50th fight as he prepares to step away from boxing. The 40-year-old told talkSPORT in September he plans to quit the sport once he reaches the landmark number. Chisora is coming off the back of a stunning victory over British rival Joe JoyceGetty And his farewell bout could take place next year, with the British heavyweight preparing to face Swedish star Otto Wallin in his 49th dust-up on February 8. Chisora had been tipped to face knockout artist Jarrell Miller, but the fight fell through following a contractual dispute between the American and his ex-promoter Dmitry Salita. Appearing on talkSPORT Drive on Wednesday afternoon, Chisora insisted Miller isn’t in line for a future battle, as he vowed it has to be a special opponent. Co-host Ade Oladipo suggested whether Chisora would welcome a trilogy fight with Dillian Whyte in his 50th outing. It comes after Whyte told talkSPORT in September that he would be willing to trade blows once again with ‘Del Boy’ as he drew up his three-fight comeback plan. The pair fought in 2016 and 2018, with fans treated to two of the best heavyweight dust-ups on British shores. Chisora lost a controversial spilt decision in their first encounter, before being knocked out by a brutal left hook in the 11th round. Responding to Oladipo, Chisora teased that the ‘Body Snatcher’ is a credible option, and hinted they would square off at a special venue. He said: “Do you know what? I might do the trilogy at Royal Albert Hall, black tie, boujiee. I think I might do that, I’ve got options.” And one of those potential opponents is none other than former UFC king Francis Ngannou, who is the reigning PFL Super Fights heavyweight champ. ‘Del Boy’ has told talkSPORT the two fighters he wants for his 50th outside inside the squared circletalkSPORT Chisora enjoyed 23 bruising rounds with Whyte, with fans hopeful a trilogy could be on the cardsGETTY MMA star Ngannou has boxing experience having fought Tyson Fury and Anthony JoshuaGetty Ngannou returned to the steel cage in October following back-to-back boxing bouts against Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua respectively. Chisora stated: “Another push I’m trying to get through is a fight with Ngannou – in Africa.” His announcement stunned a wide-eyed Oladipo, while co-host Darren Bent simply stated: “You’ve just dropped that in like that?” The ex-British and European champ was born in Zimbabwe before moving to the UK in 1999 as a 16-year-old, while Ngannou hails from Cameroon. Chisora continued: “I want to push [for] that [fight]. “If I can get Francis Ngannou in Africa for our own African people to see us perform, instead of us performing in European countries and Saudi [Arabia], it will give just a little bit of a taste to our young and upcoming talent in Africa to see African warriors go at it. He simply stated: “When I retire, do you know what I want to do? I want to run for London Mayor.”
