Chavarria’s work has skyrocketed in renown over the last 12 months (we named him Breakthrough Designer of the Year in the 2024 GQ Fashion Awards), with his signature elevation of the Chicano aesthetic making waves in the world of high fashion. His debut Paris show, entitled “TARANTULA,” served as a coming-out party of sorts. The show itself was an undeniable affair, featuring some of Chavarria’s best work yet donned by icons of Latin music and fashion alike (J. Balvin, Becky G, and Jerry Lorenzo were among the figures who walked in the presentation). With laserlike focus on staples of Chicano culture and the incorporation of LGBTQ+ individuals and storytelling through the collection, it made for a bold and timely display on fashion’s biggest stage during a month in which queer rights have come under assault in D.C. and mass deportations have begun across the country.Amidst all the big names and ambitious storytelling one could be forgiven for missing that the show also debuted Chavarria’s latest and greatest collaboration with Adidas. The two have partnered in the past on sneakers and apparel but TARANTULA levels the partnership up with an extensive array of kicks, all anchored by a favorite of Chavarria’s from the Adidas archive. The Forum 84 is one of the great hoops shoes from the Stripes’ court history, a chunky, bold design that in the years since its presence in basketball has become a signature lifestyle shoe for the brand. For their 2025 collection, Chavarria takes the Forum and recontextualizes it across six silhouettes. The most eye-catching and Instagram-repostable is the Forum Boot. For this, the designer adds souped-up rugged soles to the Forum upper and plays with the length of the ankle, coming away with something that feels more like a pair of Doc Martens than sneakers. Coming in both high- and low-top silhouettes, the Forum Boot is sure to be a standout once the collection hits shelves. Alongside it come the Chavarria Forum Combat Sneaker, two traditional takes on the Forum 84 in high and low, and the Chavarria Forum Heel Sneaker.Willy ChavarriaWilly ChavarriaThat Heel Sneaker is another particular standout from TARANTULA, taking the Forum in the opposite direction of the Boot. Where the Boot goes big and bold, the Heel Sneaker takes the shoe in a more sleek and subtle formal direction, kitting the Forum out with a refined Cuban heel. It’s an elegant pair of kicks not dissimilar to Chavarria’s similar heeled interpretation of the Adidas Jabbar that debuted at his New York Fashion Week show in September.Chavarria is far from a single-minded shoe dog, though. His collaboration with Adidas this year features a grand line of apparel very much a part of the rest of the fall-winter 2025 collection in style and storytelling alike. The designer styled his new kicks with signature baggy tracksuits, baggy bomber jackets, and baggy shorts with silken sheen. The collection largely adheres to TARANTULA’s wide color motif of black and red and draws from the same corners of streetwear and Chicano culture as well. In particular a leather bomber jacket stood out, a piece sure to grace many a menswear mood board in the year to come.Willy ChavarriaFor the last five years, Adidas has run the show when it comes to bringing high-profile names from the world of fashion into the fold. Their work with Wales Bonner stands as some of the most acclaimed of the 2020s and their Gucci collections have made waves over the years. After Paris Fashion Week, it’s clear that Chavarria is the next man up—no longer one to watch, but one who has officially arrived.
