2024 Year-in-Review: Places That Opened New Branches

It has been quite the year for Beijing! In our 2024 Year-in-Review, we're taking a look back at the happenings in the capital from this year that was.

Hot on the heels of our part two post looking at new restaurants that opened in 2024, we're now turning our attention to places that opened new branches. This year was a big year for breweries opening up new spots, however there were a couple of eateries that opened up new digs so we'll start with them first.

Turkish Feast Wangfujing Branch

In November Turkish Feast officially opened its Wangfujing branch inside the WF Central shopping mall, its third branch in the capital. The space has a terrace area out front, a large shared dining area featuring a stunning bar as well as a few private rooms for more intimate gatherings. Like their other locations, it's beautifully decorated with tiled floors, Turkish lamps and stained glass. 

Coinciding with the new restaurant opening, they also launched a new menu across all branches. Some fresh additions that caught our eye are the Slow Cooked Lamb Chops with Dry Fruits (RMB 188), Mushroom Pide (RMB 78) and Lamb Alinazik (RMB 98), you can read more details about it here.

Circle Urban 1733 Shopping Mall Branch

This year saw Circle Urban open up a new branch in the also new 1733 shopping mall. It boasts a large indoor and outdoor space with the same sleek vintage design as its Sanyuanqiao branch. There is a main seating area with a long bar on the right side and then a more casual lounge area in the back corner. 

They recently had a menu re-launch adding a few new burgers to the menu along with some Southeast Asian classics, Roman style pizza and a few pasta dishes. To go with the food they have a great selection of beer on tap from Mingri Brewing, a Shanghai based brewery, and Ye Brewing from Hebei as well as cocktails, mocktails, coffee and other soft drinks. For those into shisha they have a variety of that available as well.

The Daily Bagel SKP Mall Branch

After much anticipation, The Daily Bagel opened up their second branch in the capital inside SKP Mall. This sleek location has a bigger oven and bigger workstation than their original Liangma digs, so they’ve got more capacity to meet all your bagel needs. Here they serve up their usual variety of bagelwiches as well as their signature plain bagels and range of cream cheeses.

Slowboat Shichhai branch

The new year brought with it a new Slowboat which opened up a taproom in the beautiful Shichahai area. It features two floors and a rooftop terrace all with stunning views of Qianhai Lake, even including private booths for groups of up to 12 each with its own window. In keeping with the historic area, the tables and benches are crafted from 100-year-old recycled elm from traditional hutong courtyards.

As always you can indulge in their menu of sumptuous food with a range of their classic burgers, shareables and plenty more besides. It of course wouldn’t be Slowboat without their signature beers and here they’ve got a whopping 45 taps on offer. Throughout the year they've also been doing a series of tap takeovers featuring brews from both local and international breweries.

El Nido Bird's Nest Stadium Branch

This year saw El Nido open up a fourth branch in Beijing up by the Bird's Nest Stadium. Here you can get their excellent craft brews as well as carefully concocted cocktails courtesy of Fang Bar, who El Nido partnered up with once again.

This branch is located right on the water with breathtaking views of some of the most iconic Olympic sights. Inside has a chic bar area and come the warmer months there is a lovely terrace area out front that’s perfect for enjoying a beer or cocktail.

Goose Island Birds Nest Stadium and Capital Airport Branches

Another place that opened up a spot near the Birds Nest Stadium was Goose Island. The space has a large terrace area out front and inside the decor has the same gastropub vibe as their Solana branch. Here they've got 15+ of their craft beers on tap and you can get their usual offerings of delectable burgers, snacks and more. There was also good news for those who are a fan of a pre-flight beverage or two as Goose Island also opened up a taproom at Capital Airport’s Terminal 3 which has plenty of brews on tap plus a selection of their signature dishes.

COMMUNE Opens Three Branches

2024 was a big year for COMMUNE who opened up three new branches in the capital: a COMMUNE RESERVE in 798, a COMMUNE•X in Mall & More and another COMMUNE•X in BHG Mall. We were particularly impressed by their new RESERVE branch located inside one of 798’s iconic Bauhaus style buildings, it’s a large space with two floors and they’ve embraced a 20th-century French Art Deco theme with elegant touches like leather chairs, natural wood decor and hand-painted murals.

However, it was the outside area we found most intriguing when they opened which has an enclosed courtyard that is incredibly reminiscent of the now demolished Nali Patio. At this branch, you can get COMMUNE’s usual selection of delicious brunch options, burgers, pizzas, snacks and more. There is also an array of 20+ craft beers on tap as well as cocktails, wine and other drinks.

NBeer 751 Branch

Another new addition to the 798 Art District in 2024 was NBeer’s fourth branch in the capital. Located in the 751•798 Train Street area it’s housed inside one of the renovated train cars, making it a quirky and perhaps at times rather cozy experience. 

Drinks-wise, they’ve got a number of their signature craft beers on tap which can all be enjoyed for 20 percent off during their daily happy hour which runs until 7pm. On the food menu, they have a number of Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan dishes plus Western dishes like burgers, American style barbecue, German sausages and more.

Ye Brewing Liangma River Branch

Ye Brewing opened its first Chaoyang branch in the capital this year, located in the Maizidian area near right by the Liangma River. It has a large seating area out front and inside has floor to ceiling windows to let in plenty of natural light. Green colored corrugated metal walls give it a relaxed casual vibe perfect for enjoying one of their impressive 16 beers on tap. They also have a menu of Western and Chinese dishes like burgers, barbecue, baojiang tofu, chicken wings and more.

DOSH GASTROPUB Wangjing Branch

There was good news this year for fans of DOSH's burgers as they also opened their first Chaoyang branch. Situated in Kirin Place in Wangjing, it’s decked out with neon lights set against dark walls giving it a strong bar vibe. It also boasts a great terrace area with stunning views of Wangjing SOHO. 

They’ve got a staggering 11 different burgers on the menu as well as a range of other main dishes, six beers on tap, a wide selection of bottled beers, cocktails, soft drinks and shisha available.
