Fans of the late Ken Block will never forget his most iconic machines built specifically for hooning around, and the heavily modified 1977 Ford F-150 “Hoonitruck” is no exception. It’s no surprise that the monstrous machine sold for over $1 million in 2021, a few years prior to Ken Block’s tragic snowmobile accident that took his life in 2023. Now the one-and-only Hoonitruck is hitting headlines again as it prepares to go across the auction block this month in Scottsdale.

The Hoonitruck was first introduced to the public’s eye at the 2018 SEMA Show. Completed in collaboration with Detroit Speed, the Ford F-150 was fabricated with a hand-shaped aluminum body over a tube-frame chassis supported by an entirely bespoke suspension. The truck, measuring in at 79 inches wide, couldn’t fit in a standard 80-inch trailer, so the team built it to easily be disassembled for transport to shows and filming locations.

The truck is powered by a built-to-the-brim 3.5-liter Ford EcoBoost engine topped with twin turbochargers that boost its output to 914 horsepower and 702 pound-feet of torque. A Sadev six-speed gearbox, complete with a massive hydraulic handbrake, sends power to all four wheels.

The Hoonitruck was built for Gymkhana TEN, which featured the Ford blasting down Route 66 surrounded by Americana. It also appeared in Climbkhana TWO, with Ken Block piloting it up China’s Tianmen Mountain, often just millimeters from sliding off the edge.

The details on the Hoonitruck’s auction listing reads:

“Nicknamed ‘Hoonitruck,’ this 1977 Ford F-150 custom drift truck was built by Ken Block and the Hoonigan team, in collaboration with Detroit Speed, for the viral Gymkhana drift video series, with the entire build taking two years from idea to reality. The 914hp twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine puts power to the ground through a custom all-wheel-drive system. In a video presenting this pickup, Block said the engine even has a bespoke, 3D-printed intake manifold designed by Ford Performance, popping out through the hood and flanked by two turbochargers. Sitting low and wide, Hoonitruck rolls on custom wheels made by Fifteen52 that feature real beadlocks, all wrapped in Toyo tires. Block said he was inspired to build a 1977 F-150 specifically because that’s what he first learned to drive and likely did his first burnouts with.”

Barrett-Jackson will host the car for auction later this month at the 2025 Scottsdale, Arizona event which is scheduled for January 18th through the 26th.
