Chrysler Confirms Electric Halcyon Concept Car is Heading to Production

It’s not very often that we see concept cars go from show floor to production-ready, but the Chrysler Halcyon is one exception. That’s right: It has been confirmed that Chrysler will introduce the electric Halcyon into the automotive market.

The Chrysler Halcyon, an all-electric, technology-packed four-door car with a sleek, coupe like look that, if we didn’t know any better, could have been designed by an automaker like Porsche, was first introduced to the public last year.  At its reveal, Chrysler said the concept showed elements that may appear on its upcoming production models, such as the next evolution of Stow ‘n Go seats and new battery technology.

In an interview with CNBC published on January 6th, Chrysler brand CEO Christine Feuell confirmed that the Halcyon concept is headed to production, however the details were limited and a timeline was not provided.

Like most concept cars that reach the production stage, it’s expected for some details to change. For example, we’d be surprised if the production version kept the concept car’s rear coach doors, and we have some doubts about it retaining all of its interior technologies.

The Chrysler Halcyon Concept incorporates a new STLA AutoDrive technology platform, which enables Level 4 autonomous driving experiences, meaning the vehicle should be able to operate itself without the expectation of a driver taking the wheel. Setting options include a dimmable glass canopy and windshield that can turn opaque with seats laid back for a unique augmented-reality Stargazing Mode. When the Level 4 autonomous driving experiences are engaged, the steering wheel drops away and the front seats can be reclined to immerse yourself in the experience.

“The Chrysler Halcyon Concept creates a level of serenity that fully represents the Halcyon name. The Halcyon showcases innovative and sustainable mobility solutions that embrace technology and offer value to customers while delivering ‘Harmony in Motion,’” said Feuell.

The news of the Halcyon reaching production comes not long after the rumors of Stellantis potentially cutting some of its less profitable car brands made the headlines, with Chrysler mentioned as one of the brands that could be cut. The rumors began based on Chrysler’s limited lineup, but Feuell told CNBC the opposite, putting a halt to that rumor and reassuring the public that the Chrysler brand has a bright future and is receiving investment for new products.

“Chrysler brand is here to stay,” Feuell said. “It is being well invested in. The brand is not on the table for elimination, and it has a very bright future.”
