Ford is celebrating its 75th year in serving law enforcement with the release of the new 2025 Ford Expedition SSV, designed to support law enforcement, fire departments, and other government agencies. The 2025 Expedition joins a broad lineup of police cars and special service vehicles stretching all the way back to 1950, beginning with the Police Package which applied to the Ford Custom, which then gained the iconic flathead V8 in 1951.

Ford promises “rugged versatility, cutting-edge technology, and robust capability to tow, carry personnel, and haul their gear, helping deliver public service 24/7” from its 2025 Ford Expedition SSV.

“Duty is at the heart of everything our valued law enforcement customers do, and that’s a standard Expedition SSV is built to meet,” said Lindsey Bertino, police brand marketing manager.

“We’re very proud to add another all-new vehicle to our police lineup with incredible technology like the panoramic display that departments across the country are looking for.”

The second-generation Expedition SSV is available as a two-row configuration with cloth seating surfaces and vinyl floors, or three row seating with the Expedition Max SSV. Both versions receive the new Ford Split Gate, making it the only vehicle in its class that offers a Split Gate feature/tailgate2.

“Officers can lift three-quarters of the liftgate for quick access or fold down the lower tailgate to use as a stable platform capable of supporting up to 500 pounds, ideal for organizing gear at a moment’s notice,” Ford states, also mentioning the new lift gate design is a first for its police cars.

“Connectivity and situational awareness are key to any department and a standard 24-inch panoramic display replaces the traditional gauge cluster, placing vital information at eye level.”

A “Dark Car3” feature also allows police to shut off all interior lighting for the privacy of the SUV’s occupants. A Police Accessory Independent Timed-Release Output (PAITRO) system helps prevent unauthorized access to cargo.

The new Expedition SSV and Max SSV is equipped with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost® V6 engine that offers 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque, backed by a 4×4 driveline with a new two-speed transfer case featuring Touch on Demand and 4-Auto. The SUVs are assembled at Ford’s Kentucky truck plant.

“We are committed to designing products that are durable, safe, purpose-built for law enforcement, upfit friendly, and deliver the performance our customers expect from Built Ford Tough vehicles, that’s what we call our police brand DNA.,” said Bertino.

“For 75 years we’ve been working with law enforcement, we are grateful to all of the agencies, officers and Ford employees that have helped design and build America’s best-selling lineup of police vehicles.”
