The 1967 Jaguar E-Type Roadster Series I that starred in all three Austin Powers films, plus a Madonna video clip, will cross the auction block in January 2025. Will the famous ‘Shaguar’ sell for “One million dollars”, as Dr. Evil, Austin Powers’ evil nemesis, would say with his pinky held up to his lips?
The British-themed Jaguar starred in the swinging sixties-themed Austin Powers film trilogy made between 1997 and 2001, which included the movies International Man of Mystery, The Spy Who Shagged Me, and Goldmember. It was also seen in the music video for Madonna’s Beautiful Stranger hit single in 1999, with Mike Myers appearing as Austin Powers.
Aside from its flashy custom painted livery, the E-Type Shaguar wears classic knock-off wire wheels and ‘Shaguar’ rear decklid badging. Shaguar was restored by Jaguar sometime in the mid-2000s. Just 63,962 miles appear on the odometer, which represents the actual mileage on the car’s original 4.2-liter inline-six engine. An original four-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels. Inside, the classic blue leather interior with wooden-rimmed steering wheel and gear knob presents as mostly original.
Josh Hancock, the movie car’s current owner, states he purchased the car after someone else won it in a contest.
“At the time, the film didn’t have the money to double the car, which – in any movie you’ll find the car’s at least doubled, you’ll find some movies you’ll have six, eight examples of the same car to get shot – so it was very nerve-racking for the production that there was only one car,” he said in a YouTube clip seen in the auction listing.
Sold as the ‘XK-E’ in the United States, a pristine, factory stock 1967 Jaguar E-Type Roadster Series I equipped with the same 4.2-liter engine as the movie car could hold up to a $390,000 value – that’s the current top sale price according to Classic.com. The average sale for such a sports car falls into the $115,000 realm, with the most recent recorded sale reaching $190,000. Add in the Shaguar’s movie car history and there’s no telling how high the bids might go. Groovy, baby!
The Shaguar is offered with two letters of authenticity. There is no reserve price shown with the auction listing, which is scheduled to go live with Mecum Auctions in the United States on January 18, 2025.
