Toyota Supra buyers prove the manual transmission isn't dead yet
The latest figures reveal major growth in popularity from 2023.
Manual fans, rejoice: the Toyota Supra saw far more cars sold with a clutch pedal in 2024 than it did the previous year. Stats tell us it’s not even close, with 65 percent of Supras opting for the six-speed over the eight-speed automatic.

Massive gains in manual sales
That’s a 22 percent improvement compared to the 2023 fiscal year, which itself saw a not-insignificant 43 percent of Supras sold with a manual transmission. Since its arrival at dealerships in late 2022, it’s clear that there is demand for the stick shift over its automatic counterpart.
Since Toyota sold 2,615 Supras in 2024, that works out to precisely 1,700 cars that came equipped with the manual. The six-speed is only available with the bigger engine, hinting that more sports car buyers opted for the 3.0-liter inline-6.
It makes sense then that the 2.0-liter variant was dropped for 2025 since it only came with an automatic transmission. It had a relatively short run, debuting for the 2021 model year and sticking around for only three more.

What’s new for the 2025 Supra
For 2025, that inline-six will be offered in two versions: 3.0 and 3.0 Premium. Thanks to a twin-scroll turbocharger, both models produce 382 horsepower and 368.
With the 2.0 gone, the standard equipment roster rises considerably with highlights like 19-inch wheels, auto-leveling LED headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster, 8.8-inch center touchscreen, dual-zone AC, and leather/Alcantara seats with 14-way power adjustment for the driver.

Opting for 3.0 Premium adds the 500-watt JBL surround stereo, increasing the speaker count from 10 to 12. Other goodies include a head-up display, wireless charging pad, navigation with wireless Apple CarPlay, and Toyota Supra Connect, which features roadside assistance, emergency calling, remote control lock and ventilation from your phone (iPhone only), and real-time traffic info.
Additional packages are available for either trim to add to an already lengthy list of features.
Final thoughts
But really, any Supra is a great Supra. The Miata owner in me says that the addition of a manual makes for an even greater Supra, so get one while it’s still a no-cost option.
With rumors that Supra/BMW Z4 production will end in the coming years, both models are likely to become collectibles, given their respective low sales. Cherish them while they can still be bought new.
