Six Ways to Realize Your Ferrari Dream for $50K or Less

Will 2025 be the year you keep the promise you made yourself to someday own a Ferrari? If the answer is yes, or even maybe, keep reading. We took a spin through the Hemmings Marketplace, and found six of Enzo’s finest that you can put in your garage for $50,000 or less. (For perspective, you’d need to pay three times as much just for a replacement carbon-fiber chassis for a Ferrari Enzo.)

Leading off our list are three examples of the Mondial QV. It has a wonderful, 3-liter, flat-plane V-8 that makes beautiful noises, curvaceous styling by Pininfarina’s Leonardo Fioravanti, and the kind of road manners you expect from a thoroughbred from Maranello. What’s holding it back in the market? Well, the Mondial is a 2+2, and collectors are willing to pay more for two-seat Ferraris. Here’s what we think: If two extra seats are all it takes to create an underappreciated bargain, well, good.

1985 Ferrari Mondial QV

The Mondial QV, or Quattrovalvole, arrived in 1982, powered by a four-valves-per-cylinder version of Ferrari’s transverse-mounted, 2,926-cc, four-cam V-8 In federal trim, it was rated at 230 horsepower, the same as the engine in the two-seat 308. We were instantly drawn to this 1985 Ferrari Mondial QV by its metallic dark blue paintwork, which Ferrari called Blue Sera, complemented by its tan interior and gold, period-correct Gotti-style wheels. According to the seller, this sunroof-equipped, 57,000-mile coupe has been well cared for, with more than $30,000 in service receipts to show. “Runs perfectly with no known mechanical issues,” the seller says. You’ll find it among the Hemmings Make Offer listings.

1983 Ferrari Mondial QV

So understated on the outside, but wait until you open the door, and take in all that beautiful red leather. This 1983 Ferrari Mondial QV, found among the Hemmings Classifieds, is also equipped with a sunroof, and shows just 56,000 miles on the odometer. It comes with $63,000 in receipts for work done over the past dozen years, demonstrating its owner’s care and attention to detail. It’s mechanically sound and ready to drive and enjoy, the seller says.

1983 Ferrari Mondial QV

Next up is a 1983 Ferrari Mondial QV, which the seller says is a Euro-spec, sunroof-delete car that was refinished in a two-tone paint scheme reminiscent of the Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer during his ownership. The car, formerly owned by a mechanic, has had some upgrades, including a larger shift knob and aftermarket and stainless pedals, all by Hill Engineering. The seller says he has spent $12,000 on the car since buying it three years ago; included in the work were a rebuilt steering rack, new suspension bushings up front, transmission seals, a transmission service, and a fusebox connector. “It is not a perfect 40 year old Italian car. But it is a fantastic driving vintage car that you can enjoy with your whole family, also a unique looking Ferrari for under $50k,” the seller says. “Can’t imagine there is much else out there with that description.” It’s listed among the Hemmings Make Offer ads.

1982 Ferrari Mondial 8

Next up are two examples of the Mondial 8. Unveiled in 1980 in Geneva, the Mondial 8 is the original version of Ferrari’s 2+2, equipped with the same 3-liter, quad-cam, eight-valve V-8 that had powered its predecessor, the Bertone-styled Dino 308 GT4. This 1982 Ferrari Mondial 8, found among the Hemmings Classifieds, is finished in the classic color scheme of Rosso Corsa over black leather, and has been driven just 42,000 miles. (If your Ferrari must be red, this is the only one on our list that qualifies.) It wears 17-inch wheels from a later 348, but the original, metric wheels can be included in the sale. “An exciting true Ferrari with dramatic style and 2+2 seating that is ready to enjoy at a very reasonable price,” the seller says. “Rare, special and in very good overall condition.”

1982 Ferrari Mondial 8

Raise your hand if you like black Ferraris. Yup, us, too. This 31,000-mile 1982 Ferrari Mondial 8 advertised among the Hemmings Classifieds offers the treat of a scarlet and black leather interior to go with that shiny dark paint. Included in the sale are the owner’s manual, a clean CARFAX report, and copies of receipts totaling more than $14,000 for maintenance and repairs carried out between April 2007 and June 2020. “Italian sports cars are constantly rising in value and this is an excellent opportunity to acquire a well-equipped Ferrari Mondial 8 that is mechanically sound,” the seller says.

1979 Ferrari 400 GT

Do you have your heart set on a front-engine, V-12 Ferrari in the classic style? If so, don’t despair. Check out this 1979 Ferrari 400 GT we found among the Hemmings Classified Ads. Essentially a more powerful version of the famous 365 GT4 2+2, the 400 GT “brought the development of the high performance, big displacement front-engined 2+2 coupé to new levels” on its launch in 1976, Ferrari says. A peek under the hood is rewarded by the sight of six dual-throat Weber carburetors, rather than the later fuel injection, which give the 4,823-cc V-12 a rated output of 340 hp. Built with the U.S. market in mind, the 400 GT was the first Ferrari to be offered with an optional three-speed automatic transmission supplied by GM, which this car has. (Worried about being accepted by the Ferrari crowd? Enzo had a 400 GT, you know.)

If your budget stretches beyond $50,000, you’ll find many more Ferraris for sale on Hemmings at hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/ferrari.
