When you have the financial means to afford a Bugatti Chiron, you apparently also gain the privilege of asking the automaker to make you bespoke accessories.

See, the main issue with a Chiron is its lack of cupholders, and for a car that can reach an MSRP of $4 million, that's a downright disappointment. To be fair, my 1986 Nissan 300ZX didn't have any cupholders from the factory either, so I can see where Bugatti got the inspiration.

Chiron owner Shannon Ralston felt the same way when she spilled a Red Bull in the door of her car and asked Bugatti to come up with a solution pronto.

A door card cupholder was the perfect solution

A couple of weeks later, Bugatti designer Frank Heyl and his team had a solution. The designers turned to 3D printing to create a prototype for a Chiron cupholder that fits snugly into the car's existing door card sleeve without needing any special tools. The holder has two holes, specifically for holding a standard 500 ml (16.9 fl oz) water bottle and the pesky can of Red Bull that led to this development, according to Heyl.

The prototype matches the color scheme of Shannon's pink and white Chiron and even has her name printed in pink. The cup holder will reportedly be ready to install as early as January.

Bugatti may have sparked a new trend among its owners

I can't think of a good reason why the Bugatti Chiron didn't have this from the factory. My first instinct was some form of weight savings, but a few ounces added by a door card cup holder won't harm its 282 mph top speed. We don't know what material the final product will be made from, but we imagine it'll be something lightweight like carbon fiber or aluminum.

That said, Frank Heyl might have just uncovered a fantastic avenue of additional income for the French brand. Shannon is surely not the only Chiron owner who has been lamenting the lack of a cupholder in their almost 300-mph hypercar. And who says this will strictly be limited to Chirons?!

Now, can we see another Chiron top-speed run with a full water cup à la Initial D?
