These electric trucks can tow more than 10,000 pounds
Electric trucks that can pick up what you're putting down with over 10,000-pounds of towing capacity.
While there may not be many all-electric trucks to choose from at the end of 2024, more are on the way despite some delays. Until then, the small selection of battery-powered workhorses currently available is putting in the work.
Every available electric truck has a max towing capacity of over 10,000. While many have a gas counterpart (Ford's F-150 Lightning is the electric version of the top-selling F-150), there are some entirely original EVs in the truck world like Rivian's R1T introduced in 2021.
Below are the three best electric trucks for towing based on tow capacity, cost, battery range, and efficiency. In other words, while the GMC Hummer EV Pickup can tow up to 12,000 pounds, its over 9,000-pound weight contributes to its inefficiency with only 53 miles per gallon equivalent (the Rivian pickup can get up to 87 MPGe). Plus the Hummer EV starts at just under $100,000 — the most expensive of all available electric trucks.

1. Ford F-150 Lightning: 10,000 pounds max
The Ford F-150 Lightning has a Max Trailer Tow Package ($1,000) which comes standard on the Platinum trim with up to 8,500 pounds of towing capacity. The XLT trim (with the extended-range battery) can tow 7,700 pounds, while the Flash and Lariat can carry the max 10,000 pounds. With the standard battery, 7,700 pounds is the max towing capacity.
- Starting price: $57,090
- Max range: 320 miles
- Battery efficiency: Up to 70 MPGe
2. Rivian R1T: 11,000 pounds max
Rivian's R1T is a newer entry in the electric truck domain, but it keeps up with its array of battery sizes and motor configurations (dual and quad) for its Gen 1 truck hauling up to 11,000 pounds with a weight-distributing hitch. With a standard hitch, it drops to 5,000 pounds.
Gen 2 R1T models can tow up to 11,000 pounds with a dual- and tri-motor setup with the Max battery pack. The Dual-Motor with the Standard and Large battery pack can tow 7,700 pounds.
- Starting price: $71,700
- Max range: 420 miles
- Battery efficiency: Up to 87 MPGe
3. Chevrolet Silverado EV: 12,500 pounds max
One of the newest electric Chevrolet models is the long-awaited Silverado EV. The electric version of the gas- or diesel-powered Silverado pickup, the EV version can tow up to 12,500 pounds on the 2025 LT trim. To achieve this though, you'll need a hitch system. The standard tow capacity is 10,000 pounds. In Tow/Haul mode the two available trims (LT and RST) get up to 510 horsepower.
- Starting price: $73,100
- Max range: 460 miles
- Battery efficiency: 67 MPGe
Final thoughts
Electric trucks can be as useful as gas counterparts for the utility purpose of owning a pickup. While there are still disadvantages of an electric version (range gets demolished while towing heavy loads), the fuel efficiency alone is compelling (the original 2024 Ford F-150 gets about 20 mpg compared to the Lightning's 70 MPGe, which is on track with most pickup trucks). Tack on instant torque and a silent, exhaust-free, ride and it's easier to stomach the higher EV price tag.
