The PRI Show is boasted as the “world’s largest gathering of motorsports professionals,” bringing together 1,100 exhibiting companies and around 40,000 attendees from all 50 states and 70 countries. Every December, the three-day Show happens in the heart of the racing industry in Indianapolis, Indiana, just in time for select performance vehicle enthusiasts to head inside to escape the cold weather and immerse themselves in the industry’s latest and greatest.
To stand out at the PRI Show among its thousands of featured aftermarket performance parts and tools, many companies display attention-attracting builds at the booths to encourage foot traffic to move in their direction. Here are some of the coolest car builds spotted at the 2024 PRI Show:
1934 Ford Roadster Land Speed Racer
This 1934 Ford Roadster was created, fabricated and built by The Garage Shop’s master fabricators, technicians and engineers. Everything from the chassis build, custom roll cage, and engine installation were completed in-house. Powered by a 930-horsepower Roush Yates FR9 Ford engine, this roadster has set records at the famed Bonneville Salt Flats, Arkansas Mile and El Mirage. It is the current SCTA record holder at the Bonneville Salt Flats and El Mirage Dry Lakebed, reaching 233.01 miles-per-hour and 207.50 miles-per-hour, respectively.
1954 Bentley Street Rod
This luxurious looking Bentley caught our eye on the 2024 PRI Show floor. The street rod is built by Street Rods Only of Illinois. Under the bonnet is a dressed-up LS engine with Dakota digital gauges delivering data to the driver. It rides on a custom suspension while the custom paint by Color by Design accentuates the car’s vintage lines and captures the attention of passersby.
1953 Henry J “The Hitchhiker”
This 1953 Kaiser Henry J appeared on the PRI Show floor as a tribute to the straight-axle gassers, the precursor to the Funny Cars that dominate professional drag racing today. The golden vintage gasser is owned and driven by Rory Campbell and is equipped with a big-block Chevy V8 mated to an Abruzzi Powerglide transmission, a rear end by Moser Engineering, Afco Big Guns shocks, Willwood disc brakes, and Mickey Thompson slicks.
1970 Mirage M5 Formula Ford Race Car
With some help of builder and racer Ezra Evans and the Fuller Moto team, this 1970 Mirage M5 Formula Ford is now a showstopper. Powered by a 1600-cc Ford engine that offers an estimated 100 horsepower and a top speed of 130 miles-per-hour, it weighs in at just 1,350-pounds with the driver.
The car was purchased some years ago by master builder, car designer, TV personality and author Bryan Fuller as his first race car. The M5 was built by famed British race engineer and team manager John Wyer who worked on GT40 project and the Martini Livery Porsche’s. According to the race car’s info card, only around 10-15 were built and this is reportedly the only one in the U.S.
1993 Ford Mustang “Big Ern”
This drag-and-drive dominating, Sick Week winning Foxbody was the baddest Ford Mustang on the PRI Show floor. Known as “Big Ern” and owned by Devin Vanderhoof, the 1993 Ford Mustang is equipped with a 540 cubic-inch big-block V8 and a slew of Holley Performance parts, including a Holley Dominator EFI ECU, a Holley EFI Injector Driver Module, and the 12.3-inch Pro Dash.
According to Sick the Magazine, Devin tuned the car to a 4.10 at 186 miles-per-hour eighth-mile pass during the 2024 Street Car Braggin Rights and he plans to invade the 3-second zone in the eighth-mile.
