Malibu Autobahn Makes the Holiday Spirit Even Brighter

Malibu Autobahn, a Southern California based automotive brand known for its unique events and Hollywood picture car rentals, took to the streets once again this year, encouraging participants to decorate their cool cars with Christmas lights.

No stranger to hosting cars and coffee events and collector car cruises, Malibu Autobahn has led this holiday gathering of classic cars, supercars and other admirable vehicles for the last four years.

“The Christmas light trend, really, every year there’s more cars coming out with lights on them and so this year we thought, ‘Let’s do a meet celebrating that,” explained Jacob Roy Szarzynski, the CEO of Autobahn Automotive Group that puts on the events. “Based on the previous years’ trajectory, we guessed this year was going to be crazy with it, and it definitely ended up being pretty wild.”

To hook up AC lights to their cars, most participants use a power inverter that plugs into the car’s cigarette lighter. The inverter converts the vehicle’s 12V DC power to standard 120V AC power that most Christmas lights require. Once the Christmas lights are plugged into the inverter, the car becomes a plug-and-play holiday float.

“We did a little pre-meet photoshoot for those cars only,” Szarzynski said. “And then we did one of our midnight car events we call Night Shift. And that one was the ‘Christmas light Edition.’ So for that one, anybody could pull up and join. I would say the actual meet we did that was Christmas light-themed, yeah, we had a couple hundred cars there and probably at least 50 had lights on them.”

Malibu Autobahn says its community is comprised “from tens of thousands of people from all walks of life and countless vehicles of every variety,” meaning the Holiday festivities are not restricted to expensive supercars like Ferraris and new BMWs, though the photo gallery provided shows several cars from that category.

“We’re all about having different types of cars,” Szarzynski said, also mentioning that there are a lot of modern cars, but also some classics. “…AMGs, some exotic cars, some trucks, some JDM cars, I think I’ve seen every type of car. There was even a guy who pulled up to the meet in his Mustang, and then he had two matching motorcycles side-by-side with it with the same Christmas lights on it. So, there’s a little bit of everything. It’s very nice.”

“It’s very diverse. We never really, unless it’s a location where we must have a small number of cars, or it’s a themed event, like our off-road event, though even the off-road one we let any car come, if they’re cool getting their car dirty and going on dirt roads. So, it’s really a very unique crowd.

“A bunch of different people, because you have all these different car subcultures there, everything from classics and low riders to exotics and hyper cars and everything in between. It’s a great place to meet people, and I think that’s why people come out to our events time and time and again, just because it’s a good community. You get to know people, you see the regulars, you meet new people. So that’s definitely what it’s all about, the community.”
