Hyundai recalls 2021-2024 Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and Genesis GV60, GV70, and G80 models in Australia

The software fault could cause the 12-volt battery to stop working, according to the recall notice.

Hyundai Australia has recalled a combined 4138 examples of its 2021-2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, Genesis GV60, GV70 and G80 models, citing a potential software fault with the affected vehicles.

The affected vehicles are stamped 2021 to 2024 models but may have been sold at a later date.

The Ioniq 5 and 6 recall issued on 20 December 2024 supersedes an earlier recall published by the South Korean car maker in April 2024. A further 45 affected vehicles have been identified, bringing the total number of recalled Ioniq 5 and 6 electric cars to 3566.

Meanwhile, Genesis – Hyundai’s luxury division – has recalled 572 examples of its GV60 and GV70 SUVs and the G80 sedan.

The Hyundai recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to a software issue in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), the auxiliary 12 Volt battery may not charge as intended, resulting in battery drainage and loss of motive power.

“A loss of motive power whilst driving could increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

Similarly, Genesis’s recall statement said, “Due to a software issue, the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) may develop an internal fault causing the 12 Volt battery to stop charging. This could result in a loss of motive power while driving.

“A loss of motive power whilst driving could increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

These recall notices appear to relate to others recently published for the Kia EV6, which shares much of its architecture with the Hyundai and Genesis models.
