In a funny turn of events, Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence are soon-to-be in-laws.
Murphy’s son Eric Murphy and Lawrence’s daughter Jasmin Lawrence announced their engagement on Saturday, November 30, by sharing a touching Instagram video of the proposal.
“11.27.2024 We’re engaged!! God truly blessed us with a love that feels like destiny. We couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter 
,” Jasmin, 28, captioned the post. “Special thank you to everyone who made this moment so beautiful!!”
In the video, the pair, in matching black ensembles, walked down an aisle of flower petals and stood in front of a giant red heart filled with butterflies and surrounded by candles. Eric, 35, then got down on one knee and proposed to Jasmin with a gorgeous ring. “It’s beautiful,” she said before they sealed the engagement with a kiss.
The video is set to the song “Spend My Life with You” by Eric Benét.

Jasmin also reshared photos and videos to her Instagram Stories, with her friend Skylar Smith writing, “MY SISTER IS ENGAGED!!! So excited to spread the news that our family is getting BIGGER! The emotions caught in this picture explain it all. I am so HAPPY for @jasmin_lawrence & @ericmurphy777 !!!! I aspire to have a love as special as yours! I love you both immensely!! LETS GET YALL MARRIED,” Smith, 21, wrote, with Jasmin responding, “We love you so much!!!”
Eric, who is Eddie’s oldest son with his ex-girlfriend Paulette McNeely, and Jasmin, Martin’s first child with ex-wife Patricia Southall, have been dating since 2021. Eddie, 63, is also the father to nine other children and Martin, 59, also has two younger daughters with ex-wife Shamicka Gibbs.
Eddie and Martin have been friends and costars for years, appearing in the 1993 romantic comedy Boomerang together when Eric, born in 1989, was just a toddler. Then, they worked on the Oscar-nominated film Life in 1999 when Jasmin, who was born in 1996, was a preschooler.
Eddie was also among the guests at Martin’s 2010 wedding to Gibbs. In 2019, the twosome reunited for some selfies as they filmed Coming 2 America and the third Bad Boys movie at the same time in Atlanta.
Oddly enough, it wasn’t Eddie and Martin who initially introduced their now-engaged children.
“My uncle actually introduced us, it wasn’t even our dads,” Jasmin, an actress, told In Touch in 2022. “And they’ve done two movies together. They’re friends. It’s crazy. We met through my uncle and became really good friends. We bonded [over] a lot of things. Obviously, we have similar backgrounds so we understood each other on a certain level, and over time it just became more.”

Eddie recently opened up about Eric and Jasmin’s relationship in a July interview with CBS Mornings.
“We thought it was cool,” Eddie told Gayle King of his son and Martin’s daughter getting together. “They’re both beautiful. They look amazing together. And it’s funny [because] everybody [asks], ‘What, is that baby going to be funny?’”
He continued, “Just our gene pool is going to make this funny baby. If they ever get married and have a child, I’m expecting the child to be funny.”
