Drunk driver caught five times over the legal limit twice… in 24 hours

A Tasmanian woman has been busted for high-range drink driving not once, but twice in a period of just 12 hours.

The 44-year-old from Deloraine was first cited at 11:30pm on Friday night after returning a blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.270, more than five times the legal 0.05 BAC limit.

She was arrested and charged with drink driving on the spot, attracting an immediate two-year disqualification.

Normally that would be the end of the story. However, the woman found herself in hot water again at 11am the next morning after police received reports of an SUV driving erratically in the same area.

It was alleged that the same driver was behind the wheel, leading to her arrest and subsequent secondary breath test. Despite having had 12 hours to sober up the woman blew 0.258, still five times over the limit.

She was charged with multiple offences including drink driving and driving whilst disqualified.

Inspector Grant Twining expressed his disappointment in the behaviour of the boozed-up motorist.

“It is disappointing and inexcusable that some members of the public continue to ignore the drink driving laws and put themselves, their family and the rest of the community at risk,” said Mr Twining.

“Our message cannot be clearer – you cannot drive safely if you have been drinking. If you want to drink alcohol, then do not drive.”
